** WORKING WITH OTHERS by Graham White **
----------------------------------------------------
The home
improvement show TRADING SPACES has become quite popular. One of the things
they do is assign "homework" that the couple must do overnight after
the decorating crew has gone. Often, the couples don't manage to get the
homework done. Each designer's reaction to this problem is different.
There is one designer who is always done ahead of time, no matter who he works
with. His reaction to problems is different from the other designers.
He never gets mad, he never lectures, he never criticizes and he is never
condescending.
He always treats the couple he is working with as if they are part of his
collaborative team. If they fail to do something, he regards it as a challenge
they will address together. He doesn't let setbacks hold him back. He simply
assesses the situation where it is at and develops a new strategy...and he is
always successful, because his team is still on his side.
They WANT to follow him. They WANT to support him. He has OVER deposited into
their emotional bank accounts because THEY know they failed him to some
degree, yet he STILL supports and encourages them. POWERFUL!
WHAT YOU CAN DO
Work at maintaining a positive focus. If you notice that you are looking at
things in the negative, FORCE yourself to reframe and think of the people who
you are seeing as failures as people with opportunities to succeed.
It is a simple principle that is challenging to implement. It requires
commitment, hard work and personal reinforcement. Life is so much easier when
people are working with you instead of trying to take on everything yourself
when others let you down.
