** PASS UP GOOD FOR GREAT by Graham White **
----------------------------------------------------
We tend to have a
mentality of desperation. We believe that if we miss an opportunity
another may never present itself. We are often living so close to the
edge of necessity that we feel we need to jump lest we be stuck where we
currently are forever.
By learning to have
a little discipline, we can develop enough of a cushion that we can afford to
wait for the things we really want. Rather than taking a job that looks
like a good financial opportunity, we can research the market to find one we
truly love in an area we adore with the benefits that make our lives more
enjoyable. We may even find that the salary is better than the first one
we were tempted by.
How many of us can
remember back to our first love, the one who broke our heart and we felt we
would never get over? Do you still feel the same way or are you now able
to see how much richer your life is with the spouse you ultimately married?
Have you ever been
so impressed by a product demonstration, maybe on late night TV, that you
whipped out your credit card for a purchase? What corner of the house is
it sitting in now, or did you get rid of it as a gift or at a garage sale?
Slow down, take
stock of what is really important and take a day before making
decisions. There are very few things that can't wait until
tomorrow. If you are the one reacting under pressure, you will
invariably end up on the losing end of the deal.
Designing
Your Life For "Great"
- Write down the
things that are truly important to you.
- Prioritize the
things that you need to do and want to do.
- Stay organized
enough that you can react to opportunities that fit your idea of
"Great".
- Read, develop
mentors and educate yourself in areas that bring you greater joy.
- Keep a physical
or mental list of things that you are looking forward to so that you are
paying attention when great deals and great opportunities become
available.
- Unless something
is "Absolutely YES!", say no.
If you fill your
life with good, you will never have room for great.
