**FIND WHAT WORKS - DO WHAT WORKS by Graham White**
----------------------------------------------------
Dr. Phil McGraw
continually asks his guests one simple question: "How's it working for
you?"
Success comes from FINDING WHAT WORKS then DOING WHAT WORKS.
It seems simple, yet we are an animal that complicates this process. Every
other animal has figures this out, or they die.
We continue making the same choices that give us the same results and then
complain about how unfair it is that we're working so hard and still not
getting ahead. I have been guilty of this often. It's funny, we actually
prefer the comfort of a strategy WE KNOW, even though it isn't working, to
trying something new that MIGHT WORK!
Don't like the results you've been getting? Then CHANGE YOUR STRATEGY.
How do you change your strategy? How do you find one that works?
DON'T continue doing something just because "THEY" say it's the way
things should be done. Allow yourself to chose the solution that will work for
you, regardless of what it may be.
CHANGE IS HARD, but it's also worth it. If the new strategy doesn't work, SO
WHAT? Neither did the one you were using before, so try again! Add to the
success rate of trial and error by getting mentored, ask someone who is doing
well in the area you're struggling, read a book, take a course.
Consider these things that may be preventing you from trying a solution that
will actually work:
1. Years of habit and repetition
2. Comfort with what you know
3. Fear of the unknown
4. Family history
5. Cultural expectations
6. Family expectations
7. Fear of failure
Take an unbiased look at what you're doing and ask yourself: "Is this
working for me? Am I happy with the results?"
If you're not happy with the results, start working on alternatives!
CREATE YOUR SUCCESS:
On the home page of my website, I talk about success being related to asking
the RIGHT questions.
I began asking a different question about 7 years ago when soliciting opinions
on ideas I had while consulting to businesses. The original questions was:
"What do you think of this idea?"
That question DID NOT succeed in determining how successful the idea would be,
so I changed the question to:
"What's WRONG with this plan? Why WON'T it work?"
I dramatically improved the quality of feedback I received by asking it this
way.
PROFOUND, SIMPLE & EFFECTIVE.
I have an experienced talented critique who gives me advice. I recognize the
wisdom of her insight years after she has recognized the flaw in my strategy.
I work on asking her the same question I ask others: "What's wrong with
this idea?", and then carefully listening to her opinion.
