development field with adults it because clear that it's much more
productive to teach children about Life's 7 Critical Choices and set
them up to make them wisely than to try to help people correct them
after the fact.
Those 7 Critical Choices?
1. How you choose to relate to your family (yes, even when your a child, if you're aware you can influence those interactions)
2. What you base your choices on who you will be friends with and the type of interaction you will have with them.
3. Choices around education and career. Choosing what makes sense long-term in the economy, and is a good match for your natural skills and combined with at least a modest level of love for what you do.
4. Moving out and living like a grown-up. Yes, you need to learn to cook, clean, pay your bills, schedule maintenance on your vehicle...you know, all the really exciting stuff in life.
5. How you choose the person you will partner with (long-term). And don't be making this commitment before you've got the first four solidly in order!
6. Determining when you'll begin having a family and how large it will be. This is the real life-changer. Kids are the one choice you can't redo.
7. Choosing to be the type of person who acts like a grown-up and shoulders what is difficult when life gets challenging. You never stop growing and you don't hide from what is uncomfortable.
I made some promises to my first daughter before she turned one. I believe that anyone who can keep these will raise a child full of self-confidence and well-prepared to take on the challenges of life.
